MBABANE – Swaziland will
implement the Automated
System for Customs Data
(Asycuda World) this month
at all border posts.
“Asycuda World will enable
the Swaziland Revenue
Authority (SRA) to move to
technologically enhanced
platforms that enable better
electronic capturing of trade
data which was previously
done manually,” the SRA said
in a statement.
Swaziland’s customs chief
Dumisani Masilela said the
new system would also boost
revenue collection, improve
customer service and provide
more accurate data.
“It is expected that this will
further reduce the queues
at our borders and provide
more accurate trade statistics
through our points of entry,”
Masilela said.
Importers and exporters
will now be able to declare
their goods on-line on a 24/7
basis. Paperwork will be
minimal or eliminated.
Crucially for Swaziland’s
cash-strapped government,
the system will make it harder
for tax evasion to continue at
its current high levels. “Let
me not mince any words
regarding non compliance.
We will continue to deter it in
every possible way,” Masilela
said.
