Airlines lost an estimated R1.6m due to missed connections from October 1-18, 2016, said Shadow Minister of Tourism, James Vos, at the Budget Review and Recommendations debate in Parliament last week.
A total of 800 passengers have missed connecting flights due to delays. James also revealed statistics relating to staffing levels at immigration counters of OR Tambo International Airport. Of the 43 counters at international arrivals, 18 counters were equipped with the biometric system. In total there are 35 biometric systems at OR Tambo International Airport out of a total of 85 processing points within the terminal.
