Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) could achieve its goal of complete port integration for South Africa by following the example of overseas ports like Hong Kong, London and Russia.

That’s the view of Paul Brooks, international president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), who told FTW Online that South Africa could make connectivity and integration within its port system work by following international examples.

Integration is clearly top of mind for TNPA, as chief operations officer Phyllis Difeto explained at a recent TNPA business breakfast. “The National Commercial Ports Policy has a new vision for South African ports which includes a system of ports that is seamlessly integrated with the logistics network.”

“By learning from other ports South Africa could accomplish in five years what it took others to do in 10,” said Brooks.
